The Programme commenced on 01 May 2005 and will run for four years, up to 30 April 2009.
What are the Relationships of the FOPRISA Structures?
There are four major structures that form the FOPRISA organisation. These are the Steering Committee, the Secretariat, the research institutions and the annual conference.
Steering Committee: The Steering Committee provides overall policy guidance and decision-making for FOPRISA activities. It meets twice per year in May and November.
Secretariat: The Secretariat conducts routine management of the FOPRISA programme and implements Steering Committee decisions, resolutions and guidelines. It arranges the Steering Committee meetings and the Annual Conferences. It may take certain initiatives, in consultation with the members of the Steering Committee, on matters that require decisions in-between Steering Committee meetings. In all cases, such decisions have to be endorsed and/or officially approved by the Steering Committee at its next meeting. The Secretariat also arranges for publication and dissemination of research outputs and policy papers.
Research institutions: These are the participating policy research institutes and universities. The activities of the research institutions are not scheduled. They engage in day to day research; analysis; report writing; networking and maintaining linkages amongst researchers.
Annual conference: The Annual Conference is held in November each year, and it is the forum for discussion of matters relating to the research programme, reporting and dissemination of research results.
What are the FOPRISA Project Application and Funding Procedures?
The following sequence is followed for project applications and approvals.
Proposals and budgets are sent to the Secretariat.
Secretariat channels proposals for vetting to two referees (including the research theme coordinator).
Referees send proposals back to the Secretariat with their comments and recommendations for revision or approval or amendment.
The Secretariat incorporates the proposals in the agenda and budget estimates for consideration and approval by the Steering Committee.
Upon approval of the research project by the Steering Committee, the Secretariat disburses funds to researchers through their registered institutions.
