• Third FOPRISA Annual Conference, 18-19 November 2008

The Third FOPRISA Annual Conference was successfully held from Tuesday 18 to Wednesday 19 November 2008 at the Centurion Lake Hotel, Centurion in South Africa. The Conference brought together FOPRISA researchers from South Africa, Botswana, Malawi, Zambia, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, D R Congo, and Angola. The main purpose of the conference was to review draft research papers submitted by various FOPRISA research groups. The conference ended with  discussions on the progress of the FOPRISA Research Project whose funding officially ends on 30 April 2009. • Eighth FOPRISA Steering Committee Meeting, 17 November 2008

The Eighth meeting of the FOPRISA Steering Committee took place on Monday 17 November 2008 at the Centurion Lake Hotel, Centurion, South Africa. The meeting discussed FOPRISA Secretariat reports on progress on various aspects of the FOPRISA Project. The meeting also discussed the winding down activities of the project as well as the programme of the 2008 FOPRISA Annual Confernce.

Previous Events

• 5th Southern African Forum on Trade (SAFT V)

The SAFT V conference  which took place in Pretoria from 6 to 7 August 2008 was held ahead of the SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government scheduled for 16-17 August 2008. Focusing on the SADC Free Trade Area (FTA) expected to be proclaimed during the Summit, as well as the expected launch of the SADC Customs Union in 2010, the Conference was attended by representatives of several Southern African Research Institutions and Academics. The Conference ended with a communique representing some of the key issues discussed during the two days. Click here to access or download the communique.

• FOPRISA Meeting with the Sponsors, 17 June 2008

The annual progress review meeting between FOPRISA (represented by BIDPA, SADC Secretariat and CMI) was held on Tuesday 17 June 2008 at the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Pretoria, South Africa. The meeting received reports on progress of FOPRISA activities for the year 01 May 2007 to 30 April 2008. The FOPRISA Activity Plan and Budget for the year 01 May 2008 to 30 April 2009 was approved.

• Seventh FOPRISA Steering Committee Meeting, 26 May 2008

The Seventh meeting of the FOPRISA Steering Committee was held on Monday 26 May 2008 in Cape Town, RSA. The meeting considered the following:-

• FOPRISA Secretariat Report on the SADC International Consultative Conference on Poverty and Development, 18-20 April 2008
• FOPRISA Activity Report for the Year 01 May 2007 to 30 April 2008;
• Management Accounts for the Year ended 30 April 2008;
• Audited Income and Expenditure Statement for the Year ended 30 April 2008;
• Project Progress Report to Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and
• Proposed Activity Plan and Budget for the Year 01 May 2008 to 30 April 2009.

• Second FOPRISA Annual Conference,  November 2007

The 2007 FOPRISA Annual Conference was held at the Royal Hotel, Durban, from 27 to 28 November 2007, at which 2 monitoring reports and 16 research papers were presented. The Monitoring SADC and Monitoring International Cooperating Partners reports are expected to be published by end of April 2008, whereas the 16 papers are being edited and will be published as Proceedings of the 2007 FOPRISA Annual Conference by June 2008.

• Sixth FOPRISA Steering Committee Meeting,  November 2007

The Sixth meeting of the FOPRISA Steering Committee was held on 26 November 2007. The meeting discussed the financial situation of FOPRISA; the report of the mid-term review of FOPRISA; an overview of project activities by theme; the presentations that were due to be made at the 2007 FOPRISA Annual Conference; future research directions; team and network building; relationships with SADC Secretariat (client), and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (sponsor); and management and coordination issues.

• FOPRISA Meeting with the Sponsors, 18 July 2007

The FOPRISA meeting with representatives of the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs took place as scheduled in Gaborone, Botswana  on 18 July 2007. The FOPRISA delegation comprised representatives of BIDPA, SADC Secretariat, and CMI.

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) approved a further grant for FOPRISA’s activities for the year 01 May 2007 to 30 April 2008.

• Fifth FOPRISA Steering Committee Meeting, 28 May 2007

The 5th FOPRISA Steering Committee meeting took place as scheduled on Monday 28 May 2007 at the Courtyard Hotel, Rosebank, Johannesburg, South Africa. The FOPRISA co-ordinator presented a number of reports for discussion and adoption as follows:

• Management Accounts for the year ended 30 April 2007
• Audited Income and Expenditure Report for the year ended 30 April 2007
• FOPRISA Progress Report to Norwegian Government

• FOPRISA Policy and Strategy for Dissemination
• Terms of Reference for The Mid-Term Review of The FOPRISA Programme

• FOPRISA Annual Conference, 28 to 29 November 2006
  
  The FOPRISA Annual Conference 2006 was held at the Hotel Polana, Maputo, Mozambique, from Tuesday 28 to Wednesday 29 November 2006, starting a day after the FOPRISA Steering Committee meeting. Researchers from all the FOPRISA research themes gathered to review each other's work and share ideas on improving their outputs. The discussions centred on the presentation of draft research papers by researchers working on each theme. Preparations for forthcoming projects were also discussed. The report on the Annual Conference is available for public viewing.

The Institutions represented at the conference were the Botswana Institute for Development Policy Analysis (BIDPA), Christian Michelsen Institute (CMI), Namibian Economic Policy Research Unit (NEPRU), Southern African Development Community (SADC), Eduardo Mondlane University, Economic and Social Research Foundation (ESRF), the University of Botswana (UB) and the University of the Witwatersrand.

• Fourth FOPRISA Steering Committee Meeting, 27 November 2006
  
  The FOPRISA Steering Committee met on Monday 27 November 2006. The meeting was called to review developments since the Third Steering Committee meeting of 29 May 2006. The FOPRISA Coordinator presented several reports which were discussed, as follows:

• Report covering FOPRISA project activities and developments from 01 May 2005 to November 2006;
• Draft Policy and Strategy for Dissemination of FOPRISA Outputs;
• Request for on-demand policy paper from SADC Secretariat on "Short-term Studies and Preparations for the Extra-ordinary Summit”
• Conference proposal from Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) Botswana on “Deepening Integration: Macroeconomic Policies and their Impact.”

 

• Third FOPRISA Steering Committee Meeting, 29 May 2006
  
  The FOPRISA Steering Committee met on Monday 29 May 2006. The meeting was called to review developments since the Second Steering Committee meeting of 14 November 2005. Several reports were presented and adopted, as follows:

• Report for the Year 01 May 2005 to 30 April 2006;
• Audited Income and Expenditure Statement for the Year ended 30 April 2006;
• Project Progress Report to Norwegian Government;and
• Proposed Activity Plan and Budget for the Year 01 May 2006 to 30 April 2007.

 

• Second FOPRISA Steering Committee Meeting, 14 November 2005
  
  The FOPRISA Steering Committee met on 14 November 2005. The main objective of the meeting was to plan for the implementation of approved projects.
